Backpacking Boots
What determines the comfort along your trip? Your
backpacking boots! The comfort comes from the combination of fit
and support.
Depending on activities you take, the backpacking boots can be classified
as mountaineering boots, trekking boots, day-hiking boots and trail
running shoes.
When you decide to choose one hiking shoes, you should take the
following points into consideration.
Upper Material:
Is it a nylon mesh and split grain leather or full-grain leather?
The former one is lighter and more breathable, so in most cases,
it is applied to trail-running shoes and day-hiking boots. The weakness
of it lies in the less durability and water-resistant ability. The
full-grain leather boots offers you the thickest and most durable
boots with enough support on your way. Attention: it also takes
time for you to break in.
Midsole:
Take a look at the midsole material, the cushioned midsole (we call
it EVA) for light hiking and the tougher midsole (we call it PU)
for heavier weight boots.
Outsole:
Vibram outsole is popular and widely recognized on the market. You
can choose from different dense rubber and patterns for your planned
activities. In general, multidirectional tread pattern provides
better traction on a variety of surface.
Now it is the time for trying on. Remember to pick up the suiting
hiking socks, one crucial factor for the comfort. Test the arch
support, suitable space, heel position. In our shop, you can test
it on an incline, there should be no slippery or rubbing.
Backpacking Socks
You man have noticed the importance of a pair of suitable socks when you doing sports. With different material and construction, backpacking socks can be divided into three parts:
Lightweight backpacking or hiking socks, which is thicker and warmer than ordinary socks and liners. They mainly focus on wicking instead of insulation.
Midweight backpacking socks provide firmer cushion and more insulating ability in cold climate conditions.
Mountaineering socks are the thickest and warmest socks to keep you away from most extreme elements in outside. Want to climb the Mountain Everest? Socks for you!
Material
You can choose from cotton, synthetic and wool.
Almost the best quality socks are made of wool blend with nylon and lycra to reach the balance of insulating, wicking, durability and fit.
